Abstract

The polymer poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline), marketed under the name Aquazol®, was introduced in conservationrestoration

procedures in the 1990s. Despite being a young resin with its limits as yet to be ascertained, its unusual

properties and the fact that it is an environmentally friendly material which does not adversely affect the health

of the conservator-restorer, has resulted in it being used with greater frequency in many different processes. This

paper is a synopsis of the research undertaken on this polymer based on a study carried out at the Centre de

Restauració de Béns Mobles de Catalunya (CRBMC) and which formed part of the Final Project in the preservationrestoration

course at the ESCRBCC.
