Abstract

The study analyses the construction systems of altarpieces in Catalonia between 1550 and 1650, a transitional period between the Renaissance and the Baroque. It includes a bibliographical research focused both on the general context of Catalan altarpieces and on their technical aspects. Five specific examples are described and compared, built within the established chronological framework, with special attention to the structure and the types of fittings used. The results confirm the initial hypothesis: these altarpieces present great structural complexity and respond to patterns that vary according to criteria such as religious space, geographical location and date of construction.
