Abstract

The article presents part of the final assignment of the Degree in Conservation and Restoration at the ESCRBCC on cyclododecane, a volatile organic compound used in the field of conservation and restoration since 1995. In the specialised field of the conservation and restoration of graphic documents, it is used as a fixative for watersoluble supported elements because of its hydrophobic and waterproof properties, as well as its low toxicity. Its chemical property of slowly sublimating at room temperature grants it the reversibility that any cultural heritage intervention requires.
