Historical Interventions, Considerations and Examples of the Preservation of Leaded Stained Glass.

Abstract

The present article describes some of the past interventions on stained glass. The text is based on manuals, archives and articles from conservators and art historians. It explains the main properties of the material that on one hand make it unique and on the other determine the present state of conservation of the windows. The text describes with examples how traditional repairs, maintenance interventions and stopgaps have preserved and modified historic stained glass to its current state.
