Abstract

It is apparent that there is a need to truly understand the historic item in question in order to decide which procedure will be the most appropriate. The book is an extremely complex object consisting of several types of material and where the value, in addition to the message it contains, is in the nature of the material itself. The binding is intended to protect the content but the design must also allow for handling and consultation. Within this complexity there is a small but important element, the headband. This article is an abbreviated version of the final project in the conservation and restoration course which the author submitted at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
