The Vallmitjana Family of Sculptors. Study of the Collection of Moulds by Agapit Vallmitjana Abarca

Abstract

The aim of the following article is, firstly, to contribute an accurate perspective on the importance and trajectory of a key family of sculptors in the second half of the XIX century. The brothers Venanci and Agapit Vallmitjana Barbany contributed to the development of a new modern type of sculpture in Catalonia, which represented the implementation of the new European tendencies at the time, infused with naturalism and realism. Secondly, it sets out the research into and inventory of a collection of moulds by Agapit Vallmitjana Abarca, son of Venanci and faithful follower of this latest trend.
