Abstract

This paper is an extract from the Final Project in Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage for the preservation-restoration course at the ESCRBCC. It discusses the experience of preserving-restoring a XVIII century horn comb recovered from the wreck of the Jeanne-Élisabeth in the Gulf of Lyon and treated in the ARC-Nucléart laboratories in Grenoble. The restoration presented several challenges, the most critical being the severe flaking and warping suffered during the controlled drying process.
