Abstract

In 2019 CosmoCaixa Barcelona renewed its permanent exhibition and included several fossils: a partial skeleton of a

deinotherium and two shells of the giant tortoise preserved at the Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont

(ICP). Taking into account the weight, size, morphology and the state of preservation, the fossil remains presented

a high degree of fragility and a significant risk of fracture and disintegration during handling and transportation. To

ensure the preservation of the fossils, a system of individual, custom-made packing cases were designed and are

described in this paper.
